(Prior Policy) Training for Title IX Team Members

To satisfy its obligation under 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b)(10)(i)(D) under Title IX regulations in effect from August 2020 until August 2024, Kalamazoo College makes publicly available training materials specific to members of the Title IX Team. Training topics include the definition of sexual harassment as defined in 34 C.F.R. 106.30(a); scope of the institution’s education program or activity; how to conduct an investigation and grievance process including hearings, appeals, and informal resolution processes, as applicable; and how to serve impartially, including by avoiding prejudgment of the facts at issue, conflicts of interest, and bias. Both decision-makers and investigators are trained on issues of relevance, including how to apply the “rape shield” protections provided to complainants. Additionally, decision-makers must receive training on any technology that will be used at a live hearing.

At Kalamazoo College, the Title IX Team includes the Title IX coordinator, investigators, decision-makers (those who sit for both hearings and appeals), and deputy Title IX coordinators.
