Training for Title IX Team Members

To satisfy its obligation under 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b)(10)(i)(D), Kalamazoo College makes publicly available training materials specific to members of the Title IX Team. Training topics include the definition of sexual harassment as defined in 34 C.F.R. 106.30(a); scope of the institution’s education program or activity; how to conduct an investigation and grievance process including hearings, appeals, and informal resolution processes, as applicable; and how to serve impartially, including by avoiding prejudgment of the facts at issue, conflicts of interest, and bias. Both decision-makers and investigators are trained on issues of relevance, including how to apply the “rape shield” protections provided to complainants. Additionally, decision-makers must receive training on any technology that will be used at a live hearing.

At Kalamazoo College, the Title IX Team includes the Title IX coordinator, investigators, decision-makers (those who sit for both hearings and appeals), and deputy Title IX coordinators.
